An Introduction to Puppetry Performance
A crash course in puppetry for total beginners, we assist young people or adults in discovering essential skills needed to bring puppets and objects alive with movement and emotion. This is an entertaining and comprehensive introduction to the art of the puppeteer, recommended for Year 7’s and over.
The sessions can be adapted to your time frame and all intend to introduce the participants to the basic skills involved in puppetry. We can also cover a short history of puppets and explore Bunraku, Glove and Shadow Puppetry skills and where each style originates.
The most basic workshop is a practical session that explores how we breathe life into objects to create character as well as the quality of the movements used to be an effective puppeteer.
In further sessions, or in a longer workshop we would also start to
-look at the history of puppetry and its origins
-explore how puppets can be made from everyday materials to use in performance.
-pull together all these skills in more detail using puppetry and object manipulation within a shared performance amongst the group.
"Kate gave our young people a genuine sense of ownership in their learning (...) they thoroughly enjoyed the topic and were impressed by Kate's expansive knowledge of puppetry styles.
It was a joy to witness!"
